Universidad Centroamericana

Having already committed itself in 2011 to a university-wide plan to develop service learning in all its fields of study, UCA Nicaragua prioritizes teacher training and workshops, and integration of its JUHAN methodology into service learning courses. The early results have exceeded initial expectations for the faculty, assistants and students involved. In the 2013-2014 annual report on this initiative, Professor Maria Luisa Miranda, the Director of Service Learning at UCA, Nicaragua writes that “we are certain, as an institution, that the incorporation of Service Learning in each of our disciplines, is one of the most significant academic efforts in the professional formation of our students, because it privileges the connection between theory and practice in real contexts: contexts that show the social vulnerability of the majority of Nicaraguans, which need to be made visible, reflected upon, analyzed and tested by each of our students.”

The development of Universidad Centroamericana’s JUHAN program was kindly funded by the Teagle Foundation.
