JUHAN 2019 presents opportunities for faculty, students, and staff to develop in global learning. JUHAN was created to increase the effectiveness of efforts by Jesuit universities to respond to humanitarian crises in the United States and throughout the world. The principal focus of JUHAN is undergraduate education that seeks to advance humanitarian study and professional practice in the field of humanitarian action.
Participants will have an opportunity to share insights from their research, advocacy, teaching and service, as well as to learn from scholars and practitioners engaged in global humanitarian work. The JUHAN Student Leadership Conference 2019 at The University of Scranton provides opportunities for students to develop leadership skills necessary to pursue a humanitarian career.
With the theme of “Health & Humanitarianism,” we hope to explore the connection between justice in society and justice in health. According to Global Humanitarian Overview 2018, over 134 million people worldwide need humanitarian assistance and protection because of conflict and natural disasters. The aim of the conference is to bring together students, staff, and faculty who want to holistically serve the needs of others.
Call for Papers
We encourage the submission of papers and posters that offer original research, policy analysis, or promising programmatic interventions on topics related to humanitarianism in the United States and across the globe. We are particularly interested in proposals that specifically address the conference theme of “Health & Humanitarianism.” Undergraduate and graduate student submissions are strongly encouraged.
